Artist + Muse: Elizabeth Floyd

Elizabeth Floyd caught the eye of The Love List with her beautiful still life paintings. Based out of Washington D.C., Floyd's inspiration draws from lots of areas - including her own relationships.

LL: How would you describe your style?
Elizabeth: I am an artist that values the beauty of realism and the ability to capture the nuances of light. When painting, I work in a realistic style using bright colors and varied paint texture. When drawing, I often focus on the human figure and strive to capture the spirit of the person in a refined and subtle manner that expresses my respect or beauty of the individual.

LL: What has most influenced your art?
Elizabeth: Art to me is a deeply personal method of self expression. Where I use art as an opportunity to express the joy and wonder I encounter everyday with just being alive and being able to pursue the dream of being an artist. My goal with my artwork is to share a bit of that excitement and wonder with others. Maybe inspiring them to stop and admire a view or object they had never had an opportunity to appreciate before, expanding their sense of life.
( 1. Orchids 2. Pomegranate)
LL: Who are your style icons?
Elizabeth: Artists I admire are those that combine a deep sense of emotion and skill in their work. The list is long of artists I continually go to for inspiration, though here are a few I have been looking at recently: Claudio Bravo, Jeffery Larson, Colin Page, Camille Przewodek, Edouard Manet, Georgia O' Keeffe, Vermeer, Pieter de Hooch, and Botticelli.

LL: What or who is your muse?
Elizabeth: My muse, my inspiration, comes from the happiness and love I feel for my husband, S. He has been especially supportive of my career transition into art full time, and living this dream would not be possible without him. A second source of inspiration is my kitty, Slim, she is a constant companion in the studio and is always precocious in a manner that keeps things lively.
(1. Two pears and an apple 2. Autumn leaf)

... Another thing I would like to share is that the most wonderful aspect of being an artist is that you are rewarded for bringing a heightened sense of observation to the life you live. By being in tune with what brings joy and wonder into our daily life, you have the subject matter of your artwork and all you need to do is get it down and express the connection you have with it. The process is a wonderful experience in itself, though I think it is the sharing with others that makes all the effort worth it."
