New Orleans-based artist Teresa Cole says that it is "an exciting yet challenging time to be making art", and I could not agree more. Though artists and freelancers might be looking harder for that next job, I feel like those are the times where I really push myself and become inspired. Teresa's work is just that - inspired. Each of her pieces are derived from hand carved plates with numerous inkings that are run through the press repeatedly to produce a beautiful opaque layered effect.

When I asked Teresa what inspired her Flourish series, she told me it was largely from her travels to India and the interplay of color and pattern she saw there. "The 18th Century Flourish is reminiscent of a plant leaf, the acanthus in particular," she says "but also of the spine of a human body." There is something to me that is so New Orleans as well - something about the architectural detail of the wood block flourishes reminds me of the Fleur de Lis, such a mainstay of New Orlenian culture. The colors are at once soothing and vibrant... I just want to fill my walls with her art! You can delve further into Teresa's work at her website, Hoopskirt Press.
