Secret Supper Clubs

Resurging all over the southern states is a guerrilla foodie revolution - the supper club. One chef, a secret location, and a tight guest list comprise the basics of these hush-hush culinary gatherings. Though technically illegal - the idea is to create a temporary restaurant where there isn't one - passionate foodies from far and wide vie for spots on these exclusive guest lists, rarely informed sooner than a few days of where and when the meal will be.

Dinner party attire, of course. Dresses by Milly and JCrew.

I imagine a chic cluster of dinner parties, rotating locales between friends monthly. If it were my turn this month (not that I'd ever admit to being anything other than a 100% law-abiding citizen), I'd keep it fresh, seasonal, and wine-soaked... hypothetically ;)

Photo from Toast and Tables

I'd set the table and plan the menu with the summer heat in mind - a low centerpiece on the table (so everyone can see one another) of cheerful sunflowers, and bright citrusy lemons used as cheeky name plates. A bright yellow bandana makes for a cute cloth napkin.

Stone-ground grits take longer to make, but they're worth it, and pecan pie tops the meal of perfectly (and makes great leftovers for breakfast with coffee).

I'd serve in the evening, right as the sun is going down and the day begins to cool down. I'd pull easy-to-prepare but delicious staples from favorite cookbooks and inspiration from great meals I've had elsewhere. Catch of the day en papillote would be the star of the show, paired with Myer lemon grits and fresh asparagus - preferably on a Wednesday night, as our farmer's market is on Wednesday evenings. I'd end the meal with my Gram Gram's pecan pie.

A pretty invitation lets guests know the details... just not too far in advance. Psst... freebie alert! I designed this printable invite just for y'all, you can download it by clicking here!
