Lifestyle Blog for the Rebellious Debutante Hits Home Below the Mason-Dixon
Disenchanted with a never-ending sea of design blogs, 23 year old Jessica Graves took a fresh approach to the format and founded “The Love List” -- a lifestyle blog that is quickly gaining attention from southerners and southerners-at-heart. Added to it’s successful foundation in interiors and design, Graves has brought on nationally renowned experts to advise and inspire readers and create a winning online cocktail of the new and old South.
Jacksonville, FL (THE LOVE LIST) August 7, 2009 -- Writer and graphic designer Jessica Graves's picks and recommendations in southern lifestyle and design are lively, bright, and sophisticated. With the help of a splashy new contributing staff, she is redefining the southern belle into a winning combination of contemporary taste with the polish we've come to expect from the Mason-Dixon debutante set - and she's barely broken age 23.
Graves wants people to re-think the South without forgetting its roots. Maintaining the standing traditions of the area - hospitality, great food, and good manners - she expands beyond tired topics and colloquial cliches. The Love List engages the reader (no matter where they call home) and speaks for a new crop of chic Southern Belles.
Taking the site beyond her own voice, this year The Love List has expanded to accommodate a slew of impressive standing contributors. Graves brought on notable interior designer Kyle Schuneman, who has worked with HGTV, Style Network, and the Tyra Banks show. Enlisting him to take give her readers expert advice on interior design, Schuneman’s popularity inspired Graves to cast her net on a wider range of topics.
Honing her focus on her Southern roots, Graves knew that nothing could be truly reflective of her homeland without touching on its famous cuisine. Months of exhaustive searching led her to respected North Carolina foodie Elena Rosemond. Bringing southern food with a twist to the grits and cornbread craving population, Rosemond’s recipes and personable voice helped round out the blog that Graves knew hip Southern women were craving.
The next addition was etiquette writer Catherine Coughlin, a Dixie-bred socialite and etiquette master who trained under the late Kathryn Gottsegan. “The Blushing Hostess”, (Coughlin’s pen name) tackles subjects like applying lipstick at the dinner table and bridesmaid etiquette as she fields reader’s questions. “I was present recently when a KKG chapter gathered at the Tea Room in Savannah for lunch” Coughlin writes, “and diraectly after their lunch was cleared, they excused themselves in groups of two or three to freshen up. It was beautifully, though not at all intentionally, choreographed.”
“The rules are different now” says Graves “women in the South have always been sophisticated, but a new generation is showing a rising interest in high-end design while not wanting to let go of the comforts and traditions that define them as a southerner. The Love List is the perfect mix of that.”
